PADI IDC Pt 1 Assistant Instructor

The PADI Assistant Instructor is the start of the PADI Instructor Development process. During the course you will apply your diving knowledge and skills while learning to use the PADI System of Diver Education, both in the classroom and in the water.

To Start

How do I get started?
Self-study is a major part of the Assistant Instructor. The PADI materials you need to complete the programme are available at Aquasport in the form of an IDC Crew Pack. This contains all of the material introduced for completion of your PADI Assistant Instructor programme. A comprehensive list of all the equipment and training materials needed is available from Aquasport on request.

Once you have enrolled on our Assistant Instructor programme you have full use of the facilities available at Aquasport to prepare yourself for this intensive course.

Action

What will I do?
The PADI Assistant Instructor (IDC Part 1) course is the first portion of the IDC. All of your training during this programme is geared towards development. During Part 1 you gain additional experience with student divers while continuing to learn the PADI System of Diver Education. The Assistant Instructor course adds to your abilities as a dive professional, while giving you the necessary tools to finish the IDC in the OWSI programme.

As a PADI Assistant Instructor you can give classroom and pool presentations and evaluate PADI Open Water programme surface skills under the supervision of your PADI Instructor. You may also teach some of the PADI specialty programmes, conduct PADI Discover Scuba Diving pool experiences and conduct the PADI Seal Team AquaMissions.

Once certified you will also be qualified to continue onto Part 2 of the IDC, the Open Water Scuba Instructor.

If you are already at Instructor level from another recognised scuba training agency you can make yourself more marketable by becoming a PADI Instructor. PADI will recognise your experience and you may only need to complete an orientation to the PADI System before going onto your Instructor Exams.

Time

How long will it take?
The Assistant Instructor IDC Part 1 programme takes a minimum of three days. You will need to be prepared for your programme and not have any other commitments that may interfere with your training.

Aquasport schedule weekend, evening and intensive Assistant Instructor programmes suitable for even the busiest of schedules.

Requirements

What will I need?
The PADI Divemaster or equivalent certification is required for you to start your Assistant Instructor programme. Divers certified through other agencies should contact the centre as there may be additional requirements to your certification.

A valid certification in First Aid & CPR, the EFR programme is ideal for this. A Diving Medical signed by a physician dated from within one year of your programme dates, we recommend the HSE medical if you wish to work as an Instructor in the UK.

As well as the PADI IDC Crew Pack already mentioned above, you may also find the standard PADI manuals from your previous programmes are required. Equipment rental is not included in the cost so you will need to rent from us or bring your own.

A full list of requirements is available at the centre on request.

Where To?

Where can I go from here?
The PADI Assistant Instructor is just the start of your professional diving career. From here you can enrol onto one of our Open Water Scuba Instructor programmes, or become an EFR Instructor and teach programmes designed to give people the knowledge to help others in times of need. As a certified Assistant Instructor you can work with a centre or resort teaching both certified and non-certified divers. The world is at your feet.

PADI Assistant Instructors who complete their training with Aquasport International have the opportunity to work here with us at one of the biggest and best scuba diving centres in the UK.

The PADI Assistant Instructor rating gives you the opportunity to put something back into your chosen sport. By teaching the PADI Seal Team or the Discover Scuba Diving sessions you can get involved by passing on your knowledge and skills you have developed during your journey through the PADI system.
