The Aquasport Club Scene

Diving with our club isn't like joining one of those other stuffy clubs. For a start you don't have to pay an annual subscription in order to take part. We're all about helping you to enjoy your diving, not being the in-crowd.

When we book a coast trip it's exactly the same as if you'd booked the boat yourself, only we can help you find the divers to fill it. All you pay for is an equal share of the boat and your B&B, with whatever air fills you need on top. So why don't you start by coming down to one of our regular Wednesday or Thursday night club dives and get involved. We're always looking for new people to go diving with.

***Club Dives***
For those of you who wish to continue your weekly circumnavigations of Dosthill we say fill your boots. However a few of the instructional team, including myself, are still offering Diving Workshops on both the Wednesday pool sessions and on the Thursday club dives. These will be free to any member of our club and will consist of sessions aimed at improving your general diving skills, from tweaking your buoyancy to deploying an SMB or practicing free ascents and descents. The level of skills practiced will vary with each divers qualification. Open Water Divers will benefit form the basic skills, whereas Rescue Divers can practice lifts and searches.

***Kit Hire***
Remember that we have extended the £10 kit hire for any one who has completed their training with us to include Thursday afternoon too. So if you get an early day you can pick up your gear and get down to Dosy at 2pm when they open and get a couple of dives in before it gets dark.

***Trips & Travel***

Huge smiles all around from the happy divers who returned from our latest Farnes Trip. Some fantastic sea conditions and better than usual visibility meant that all the dives went off without a hitch and the seals were more than obliging whether posing for the camera, or trying to steal themselves a pair of fins! And we promise not to mention anything about Chris Dean's amorous encounter with a frisky bull seal (!)

For those of you who missed out, don't despair as we'll be heading back up for the first launches of the new season in April. Check back on the UK Travel page soon for more information on the what, when and how much.

The Next Portland Fish and Ships weekend is on the 13th and 14th of March. Call or email for more details, head to the UK Travel page or look out for more info on the next newsletter.

You're not too late to book your place on the June Red Sea holiday. We have a fantastic boat touring the route known as Simply the Best! Says it all really. This fully escorted trip (you get me included free of charge for the duration of your holiday) is one of the highlights of our diving calendar and is always the talk of the club for months after our return. Diving famous sites such as the Brothersand Elphinstone to name a few, you are guaranteed a fantastic and memorable trip.

Check out our worldwide travel page for more on the June Red Sea Trip.

***The most popular Specialty of 2009 was Digital Underwater Photography Specialty***
With the 2010 holiday season well and truly on it's way, those of you with digital cameras should be making the most of your time practising, and those of you without should come down to the centre to see what all the fuss is about. So here's a little taster of what's been happening to our budding David Baileys.

We've been seeing some great improvements in the pool:

But by far and away the most impressive results we've seen have been down at Dosthill. Congratulations to those involved for battling the poor viz to get these great shots

But the biggest congratulations have to go to Steve Murphy who managed to go from all blue shots (!) to finally get this fantastic image of everyone's favourite Golden Orfe. I promise you this is in Dosthill!!

If you're interested in finding out more about the Digital Underwater Photography Specialty then give the centre a call, or better yet head down here and pick up your PADI materials and book on this course for only £145

***Club Nights***

We will still be holding regular monthly club evenings based at the centre incorporating presentations from suppliers, equipment promotions and talks on various interesting (hopefully) subjects. With Foxhollies pool staying on line we will now look at hosting these on a separate day to the weekly club nights. More on these in the regular newsletters.

The cost of the pool session only is still only £5. Pool session with tank and weights is only £10. Finally, pool session with full equipment hire is only £15. Please support the pool as it is now there purely for you guys to use and as they say, if you don’t use it you will lose it! 8.30pm at Foxhollies leisure centre, or earlier at Aquasport to get your kit.

Remember the regular Thuirsday club nights will continue as soon as Dosy reopens for the season.
£8 gets you in, £5 with tank and weights and £10 for a full set of kit. We will try to get enough people to arrange a regular 'last Thursday of the month dive' until then.

PLEASE CALL THE CENTRE AND LET US KNOW YOU'RE COMING IN ADVANCE !
