Rich Venn - Instructor
Why did you learn to dive?
Having tried many years ago I was on holiday in Tenerife and there was a centre at the complex so I did a Discover scuba with them and really enjoyed it, 2 months later I went back and completed my PADI Open Water course.
What is the favourite course you have done?
All of them stand out really as whilst doing various courses you meet different people and gain new buddies but I think one that does it for me was my IDC which took me forward to my Instructor exam. It brought together all the courses I had done over the years, the knowledge and skills I had developed. The lead up to the exam was a roller coaster but now I am able to share my experience with those that wish to learn.
What is your favourite course to teach?
For me I think it has to be the PADI Advanced open water course. You have a group of qualified PADI Open water divers who are keen to advance their diving knowledge and learn new skills. Over the course of 5 adventure dives you can see the confidence and scuba skills develop in each individual. The good part I find with this course throughout every dive you are constantly working with them on buoyancy whilst completing the skills for the dive, at the end of the weekend they can see the difference from start to finish.
Do you have a favourite piece of dive kit?
Well it was a close run thing as I don’t take the butty van along. Got to be O Three dry Ri 1-100 dry suit, ease of use, flexible and dry as a bone. Need I say more.
What was a memorable dive for you?
All of them but there are a couple that stand out. First below Cenote El pit in Mexico. A narrow opening at the top opens up into a vast underground cavern to a depth of 40 m, looking up seeing divers swim through the rays of light is amazing.
